Willy's Place

Day one for the "SUMaC" teams finds this team at Willy's place. Willy is one who is fortunate to have a job (at the nearby airbase) and family to live with while restoring his house.

Willy lost much of his roof during the storm, and had water rising from the storm surge up to the bed upon which he stood. He was ready to break into the attic if he had needed to.

When you realize that Willy and volunteer crews have been working on this place for months, and you still have this much work to do, and then repeat this scenario thousands of times in the area, then maybe you can start having a clue as to the work that needs to be done.

This photo was taken at the end of yesterday; today, they will be putting up sheetrock on the ceiling, along with insulation.

Steve, Willy, Pete, Paul, Martin, and Stoddard (kneeling) formed the handy work crew at Willy's yesterday. What I witnessed of this crew is that these guys know how to get it done, and do it right, quickly, and with a sense of humor and camraderie that you'd love to have at your own house. Indeed, we are incredibly blessed with the work ethic, skill level, drive, and determination in our group of 22.
