Carolyn
Carolyn McGahie comes to our group from the United Methodist Church of Hartford, and sees her role on this mission as a "sleeve-roller-upper" as a "cooperator-in-residence".Since her graduation from Mt. Holyoke College, Carolyn has had a varied and fascinating career. She has worked with the YMCA, has been a preschool and creative movement teacher for 17 years, and then was a veterinary assistant for 17 years.
Carolyn is a seasoned veteran of volunteer activities, including Volunteers in Mission. "Having been on a VIM trip to Haiti, I feel compelled by faith to continue this service. I want to continue with my deceased husband's vigor and concerns." Her activities include the Red Cross (she is a donor of 171 pints); Outreach Commission, choir (she sings tenor at her church "due to a lack of men"), worship commission, assistant director of Hartford West End Food Pantry, and "other soup-to-nuts."
Carolyn is clearly a giving and caring person with a worldwide outlook. "My home is like a rooming house" she says. "Over the years probably 30 different people have lived here, on and off, for various reasons. Many foreign students and dogs, cats, and rabbits. We lived in Germany two years and traveled widely. We stayed with families in Israel and Korea with the Friendship Force, and attended a seminar in South Africa with Plowshares."
Carolyn's experience and outlook will be of great value to us all.
